Beauty At The Met Gala 2017
May 02 2017
Last night New York City saw The Met Gala, an annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The gala also marks the grand opening of the institute’s annual fashion exhibit, which sets the theme of dress for the guests. The 69th annual Met Ball was themed Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons. Rei Kawakubo is a Japanese fashion designer and is the founder of the label Comme des Garcons, known for its avant-garde feel and challenges the conventional ideas of beauty and style. So today, we thought we’d run through a few of last night’s red (or in this case, cream) carpet looks in line with this unconventional avant-garde theme.
We all know Rihanna for her fashion-forward choices, but this look really takes the spring floral trend to the next level. Rihanna wore a 3D petalled dress from Kawakubo’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, and donned a pretty pink beauty look inspired by the designer’s Spring/Summer 1997 runway show.
Cara wore a silver and black evening suit from Chanel, accessorised with a thick silver waist belt and pointed silver heels. More noticeably, Cara rocked her bald head that she shaved for a new role as a cancer patient, and painted it silver, adding a few Swarovski crystals.
As the co-chair of the Met Gala, Katy Perry went all out, wearing a dress from Maison Margielas. Titled ‘Artisinal’, Katy’s dress was covered from top to bottom in layers and layers (and more layers) of red tulle. The singer topped it off with a red veiled headpiece, a smokey eye and matching red lipstick.
The most minimal of all, Selena took to the carpet with her new bf The Weeknd, wearing a white embellished floor-length dress with a plunge neckline. The pop princess accessorised with a choker and wore a bright pink eyeshadow with a nude lip.
