Science

The science

The concept of filler is really simple. We inject the filler just below the skin or deeper depending on which area of the face is being treated. The gel instantly fills and plumps up the skin and the results are seen immediately. The filler we use is made from hyaluronic acid in a gel formula, which resembles the hyaluronic acid already present in our skin. This type of filler hydrates the skin, encouraging water into the area. Filler can be used for plumping parts of the face that have lost volume including cheeks, nose to mouth lines, around the mouth and lips, forehead, mouth to chin lines, between the eyebrows, and acne scars. The filler has an additional anesthetic included in the product, which prevents discomfort during the treatment.*

In the news

Celebrities have been using fillers to plump up their face for decades, including A-lister Renée Zellweger. Do you remember Renée’s shocking transformation in 2016?! And it’s not just for women… male celebs to turn to filler include Simon Cowell and Tom Cruise.*

FAQ

FAQs

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is the substance of our filler. It is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the human body and is central to regulating cell growth and renewal. HA has a number of jobs in the body, some of which are to bind water, lubricate the movable parts of the body such as muscles and joints, and to maintain the elasticity of the skin.

What are the benefits of dermal filler treatments?

Dermal filler injections are an effective way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, smooth the skin and give a more youthful appearance. The result of a single treatment is seen instantly, lasting around 6 to 12 months.* Our highly trained aesthetic nurse uses dermal filler injections to give natural looking results that do not affect facial expression. As your face changes over time, dermal fillers allow you to control the way your skin looks subtly as you age.*

Are dermal filler treatments safe?

Although there have been horror stories in the news, these are usually the result of injecting liquid silicone rather than hyaluronic acid. This has no relationship at all to dermal fillers used today in aesthetic procedures. Problems with hyaluronic acid fillers are in general, very rare.* You can discuss any concerns with our highly qualified aesthetic nurse if you are thinking about having the treatment.

Which areas can be treated?

Dermal filler treatments are used to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles, and shape facial contours, such as cheeks and chin, revitalising the skin.* Common areas of treatment are: nasolabial folds (lines between the nose and corner of the mouth) and marionette lines (from the corner of the mouth downwards). Cheeks, forehead, and between the eyebrows can also be treated.

How long do the effects of a dermal filler treatment last?

One of the great advantages of dermal filler treatment is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent. Although, duration depends on many factors, such as the area treated, your skin type, skin condition, lifestyle and age. Generally, the results can last between 6-12 months.*

Are there any risks with dermal fillers?

Product related reactions are rare. However, there are some injection related reactions which may occur after any injection. These include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site for a short period.*

Is dermal filler painful?

Some clients may experience the treatment as a mild discomfort. However, we do use a mild anaesthetic to ease any pain.*
